![]() ![]() Mario Party is very much a video game to me and is not particularly representative of a board game. Minimum setup each time, the rules and object can be though in a minute, and off you go playing one of 77 minigames. We will compare this to 77 Ways to play Tenzi. Its hilarious silly fun when random BS ruins your game with friends.īut when you are alone trying to 100% the game and its all based on RNG with no one to laugh at you except yourself just feels frustrating like beating Mario Kart 8 on 200cc solo (its not fun solo) One thing though: I did not enjoy Mario Party single player modes on the N64. You could argue MP is like Talisman or Anima in video game form, for better or worse. ![]() It (sorta) puts skill in the minigames though turning it into a Warioware experience. It also keeps the game moving with moment after moment of 'penalize for bad roll or someone else's bad roll'. What makes it succeed as a video game though is it has such high over the top random BS to a point where the last 2 hours of play could be lost on a single die roll makes it unforgettable hilarious. The game board aspects would make it horribly frustrating. It's a lot of easy, simple fun and I recommend it to anyone looking to introduce gamers to a quick entry into boardgaming or people looking to emulate the Mario Party feeling. You're collecting coins from properties and from other players, but the coins only allow you to "buy in" to the Grand Prix races, and the Grand Prix trophies are how the winner is determined. The game lasts maybe 40 minutes by design. IIRC there are 8 Grand Prix cards, so once Go has been passed 8 time in total, the game is over. You "race" around the board, and each time a player passes Go, all players compete in a Grand Prix mini game. Each character has their own abilities and players use items/weapons similar to the video game. But Mario Kart Monopoly feels far more like an actual Mario Party boardgame than either Monopoly or Mario Kart itself. I'd rather suggest the Mario Kart Monopoly actual board game. r/tabletopgamedesign - Designer's subreddit.r/boardgameexchange - selling/buying/trading games. ![]() Game of the Week Calendar Related Sites & Subreddits The simplest use is to bold game names in your comment and add " /u/r2d8 getinfo" at the end of the post, but this post/sub has other features identified.
